A colourful and hearty meal, the idea of the English breakfast as a national dish goes right back to the 13th century and the country houses of the gentry. In the old Anglo-Saxon tradition of hospitality, the manor would provide hearty breakfasts for visitors.  Our Full English bauble continues the custom of welcoming hospitality although I don't think our Anglo-Saxon forebearers had tinned baked beans.  

But, we like to eat, so there is that.
